MVPs are a key tool in agile development. They help teams get products to market quickly and gather validated customer feedback. They prioritize customer feedback over feature completeness.
MVP promotes testability through its clear separation of responsibilities between View and Presenter. However, it can have a more steep learning curve than other architectures like MVVM.
Vocal Performance
A major in vocal performance prepares students to be successful and thriving musicians in a variety of arenas. The program offers extensive training in a broad range of musical styles and historical periods to help singers develop their unique voices.
A combination of private lessons and weekly recital settings enable students to develop their voice as a vehicle for artistic expression and the communication of music. Upon graduation, our vocal performance majors are equipped to continue their education in master’s graduate programs and pursue professional careers as classical singers or teachers of singing.
Students can also complement their performance studies with a complimentary co-major to create a personalized educational path that reaches their career goals. Recent graduates have gone on to study at prestigious institutions such as the Boston University School of Music, the Curtis Institute of Music and New England Conservatory. The following courses are required for a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance:
Choral Conducting
Students will gain experience on the podium through weekly seminars with a graduate conducting faculty member, and by assisting and co-leading Peabody’s vocal ensembles in rehearsal and performance (including NEXT Ensemble and the Peabody Camerata). They will also participate in conducting recitals as well as receive individual coachings with a voice instructor.
MVP 772 Choral Conducting: Major Works. 1 Credit Hour. Study of significant choral-orchestral literature with emphasis on working with an orchestra, historical context, performance practice, interpretation and gesture.
The Intensive Musical Theater Experience. 1-2 Credit Hours. This course provides advanced work in developing stagecraft and acting skills unique to operatic performing. Physical release and expression, coordination, mental agility, individual artistry and emotional availability are all critical to the successful singing actor.
MM and DMA choral conducting students may apply to compete in the American Prize Dale Warland Award in Choral Conducting. Please see the “Competitions” section for more information on this unique opportunity, which requires a video submission.
Music Education
Music education teaches children more than just how to play a musical instrument. It teaches them how to interact with one another, develop their social skills and become part of a team. Students in band and choir often form long lasting friendships with their peers which helps increase engagement in school and creates a sense of belonging for those involved. Conversational solfege is a method of learning music that is influenced by both Kodaly's methods and Gordon's Music Learning Theory. It immerses the student in the musical literature of their own culture - America's folk songs versus Hungarian folk songs - and allows them to decode and create music through spoken syllables before moving to standard written notation.
Explores music and cultural diversity through cross-cultural readings, musical analysis, critical listening, composition, improvisation and performance. Understanding relationships between music and other arts and disciplines outside the arts is also important as is an appreciation of how music relates to history and culture.
